Local Betty Field Trip: The Museum at MIT

Well hello Betty! When Mother Nature blesses us all with a little enforced reprieve from the hustle and bustle {hello snow, torrential rain, wilting humidity} I say take advantage. Dial up a movie, peruse some recipes, or make a Field Trip plan

Today's suggestion: The MIT Museum / All Star Sandwich / Kendall Square Cinema / The Hungry Mother

The museum at MIT is always a fun, doable excursion.  It's small, interesting and easy to travel to- a get in and get out.  Robots, mechanical contraptions, and more uh, scientific stuff for those of you that actually understood physics.

The museum houses permanent collections {think holograms, robotics, computing history} as well as ongoing events. Check here> to see what's going on right now. Check here> for interesting programming during school vacations, the Cambridge Science Festival, Second Fridays, FAT Thursday, and Girls Day.

I get hungry after looking at all the things that verrry smart people think up. So I head to Somerville's All Star Sandwich Bar for lunch. This little shop is always busy, and with good reason.  Everything is great.  We wish we could say that we experiment and choose new things from the extensive big-sandwich menu but we don't.  The Cuban pressed ham sandwich, the muffaletta, and a burger every time.  And they have a big jar of free Oreos for dessert- why does that bring out the kid-style "oh goody!" in Betty? Sunday 11am - 8pm; Monday - Thursday 11am - 9pm; Friday - Saturday 11am - 10pm

Cristina's ice cream is a few doors down, another extensive menu to choose from.  Wander a bit to find an exotic spice shop {lime salt anyone?} a darling kids clothing and toy shop, and a good vintage clothing store. Something for everyone in the family.

Stay even later in the evening and go to the Hungry Mother Restaurant & Kendall Square Cinema: The Mother is a great Modern Southern influenced restaurant.  Go before 6pm and tickets to the Kendall Square Cinema are $7 and the restaurant will pick them up for you {although you may need the walk after a plate of delicious hush puppies...}
